Sister Janice Funk, CSA, baptized Nancy Lucille, died peacefully at St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on June 23, 2021.

Nancy was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on May 14, 1934, the daughter of Milbert Funk and Lucille Zangl Funk. The oldest child in her close-knit family, she had two sisters and a brother.  Nancy entered St. Agnes Convent in 1948 and attended St. Agnes High School. After graduation in 1951, she continued her preparation for religious life and received the religious name, Sister Janice. She professed her vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes on August 15, 1953, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

In 1962 Sister Janice received a B.S. in Education from Marian College of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She earned her M.S. in Education from St. Mary College, Leavenworth, Kansas, and updated her professional knowledge throughout her life as an educator.

Sister Janice ministered as an elementary teacher from 1953-2004 in Wisconsin, Kansas, and Illinois. She spent more than thirty years in parish schools within the Green Bay Diocese. Sister participated in the Foster Grandparent Program from 2004-2011, when she became a volunteer tutor.

Sister Janice moved for a time to St. Agnes Convent, Fond du Lac. She joined the sister residents at Nazareth Court and Center in 2017, living there until shortly before her death.

Sister Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Milbert and Lucille Zangl Funk, brother-in-law Robert LaPlante, and grandnephew Tucker.

She is survived by her sisters, Sister Jeannine Funk, CSA, and Susan LaPlante; her brother, Father David Funk, Capuchin; nieces Marin LaPlante-Kleinke (Jeff Kleinke), Courtney (Jason) Jacobitz, and Abby (Clint) Dexter; a grandniece Madeline and grandnephews Cooper, Jensen, Brooks, Corbin and Layton; and by the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered.

Visitation will be held at Nazareth Court and Center, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac, WI from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and from 12:00-1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021.  Please check-in for the Visitation at the 375 Gillett Street entrance only.

In view of health precautions currently in place, a Prayer Service and Mass will be held privately July 1, 2021, with limited attendance. Father David Funk, Capuchin, will preside at the Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Francis Home, 33 Everett Street. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
