The Earth Herself
April 27, 2025
Even as we acknowledge the farmers before us,
the pioneers,
and the Indigenous peoples who once walked this land
so too we acknowledge the earth herself.
Together, the deer and hawk,
the singing streams baptizing in blessing
from the rocky escarpment,
the fields of prairie,
whose wildflowers dash color upon the earth,
while joined by the buzzing bumblebees,
chirping birds,
and monarchs and memories,
even ponds and lakes join this psalm of gratitude.
Now mighty oaks raise ancient arms in alleluias,
farmlands promising feed,
wetlands and whispers of wind,
sunshine and starlight all offering cosmic prayer.
Yes, we hold this land lightly
as the chant of our Lauds
intertwines with creation’s sweet voice
Forever may it be as praise for all generations to come.
