Munchkins

August 25, 2024
By Lael Niblick, CSA

Munchkins—they are the little ones
The ones shushed and hushed
But never quieted—not really.
They are the children whose eyes
Delight in wonders
Whose hearts are open to love
The children who play with abandon
Begging simply to be recognized
Loved
It is so easy to love the children
And yet so often no one
Wants to be bothered by their antics
Their pleading
Their cries
Go away—go play
Leave me aloud
Let the children come to me
For thus is the Kingdom of God.

Great poem! All so very true! It's sad that so many Munchkins are not loved as they should be.

Lael, what a clearly, delightful poem which tickled my imagination.
I personally always called my students pumpkins, since they needed to be
attended to with consistency and nourishment.

May we never forget to remember the wonderment of the munchkins and pumpkins around us.
