Sister Rose André Miller, CSA, baptized Mary Theresa, died peacefully August 5, 2021, at St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Mary was born July 4, 1936, in Decatur, Indiana, the daughter of Otto Andrew Miller and Rose J. Spangler Miller.  She grew up in the city of Decatur with her three brothers and two sisters.  After her graduation from Decatur Catholic High School in 1954, Mary entered St. Agnes Convent in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.  She made her profession of vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes as Sister Rose André on August 15, 1957.

Sister Rose André received her BS in Elementary Education from Marian College, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, in 1962, and her MS in Education with an emphasis on the Montessori method of early childhood development from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1980.   She also earned several certificates in religious education. Sister Rose André taught kindergarten and primary grade children in New York, Wisconsin, and Indiana.  She opened the kindergarten program at Holy Family School, Bronx, New York, and the kindergarten and daycare programs for St. Joseph’s School in Decatur, Indiana. She served as the administrator of the St. Joseph’s Daycare from 1994 – 1997.  Her final years of educational ministry were spent at St. Michael’s Parish in Plymouth, Indiana, where she worked with the kindergarten class and directed religious education programs for children and adults. She is fondly remembered for her warm smile, her love of children and her expertise as an early childhood educator.

In October 2003, Sister Rose André joined the community of sisters at Nazareth Court and Center in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. There she enjoyed using her many artistic and creative talents, especially quilting and decorating, to enhance the life of the Sisters, staff, and visitors.  Failing health necessitated her move to St. Francis Home in November 2020 where she received care until the time of her death.

Sister Rose André was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Rose Miller; her brothers John, Richard, and James; her sisters Ann Hinesh and Vera Burnett.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, dear friends, and the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered.

All funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Nazareth Court and Center Chapel, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.  Please check in for all services at the 375 Gillett Street entrance only.
