Sister Dolores Taddy, CSA, formerly Sister Peter, died peacefully September 18, 2021, at St. Francis Home, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Dolores was born November 27, 1921, in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, the daughter of Paul Frank Taddy and Genevieve (Jennie) Perdzock Taddy.  She grew up with her family near Lake Michigan where her father was a commercial fisherman. Dolores attended St. Luke’s Grade School in Two Rivers which was staffed by the Sisters of St. Agnes. Upon graduation from eighth grade in 1936, Dolores entered St. Agnes Convent and earned her high school diploma from St. Agnes High School, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.  She made her profession of vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes as Sister Peter on August 15, 1940, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

After her religious profession, while teaching grade school, Sister Dolores pursued her BS in Education from Marian College of Fond du Lac, completing her degree in 1953.  From 1941–1967, she taught in elementary schools in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and New York. Sister Dolores began her life as a missionary in Latin America in 1967 serving with the Sisters of St. Agnes in Ecuador and Honduras, as well as in Rosita, Waspam, and Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua.  In 1982 in the midst of civil unrest in Nicaragua, Sister Dolores returned to the United States working in turn as a social worker at the Place 2B in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and as a teacher at St. Francis School in Gallup, New Mexico.  In 1987, Sister Dolores chose to return to Nicaragua where she ministered for thirteen more years in Puerto Cabezas and Waspam.

Among the people of Nicaragua, Sister Dolores was beloved as a devoted and creative teacher and catechist, often mentoring young teachers. She enjoyed sharing her craft-making skills and teaching enrichment courses for women.  She had a heart for needy children and for the poor, evidenced each Sunday morning as she rode her bike to one of the poorest barrios of Puerto Cabezas to lead Scripture services.  She was known as a strong, honest, straight-forward woman with a tender heart.

Retiring from Nicaragua in 2000, Sister Dolores returned to Fond du Lac and lived at St. Agnes Convent. She continued to engage actively in a variety of ministries: Spanish Interpreter for St. Agnes Hospital; Catechist at St. Peter’s Parish in St. Peter, WI; Volunteer at the Salvatorian Warehouse in New Holstein, WI, Nazareth Court and Center, and St. Francis Home.

In October 2015, Sister Dolores joined the community of sisters at Nazareth Court and Center in Fond du Lac.  She was admitted to St. Francis Home with hospice care on Friday, September 17, 2021, following hospitalization for a serious illness.  She was cared for at St. Francis Home until her death early Saturday morning, September 18.

Sister Dolores was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Genevieve (Jennie) Taddy; her brothers Raymond (Rose), Luke (Ruth Ann), Victor (Sylvia) and Cyril (Avis); her sisters Mary (Ralph) Schroeder and Rita (James) Londo.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews and their families, and by the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed, and ministered.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Nazareth Court and Center, 375 Gillett Street, Fond du Lac, WI from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. and from 12:00 -1:30 p.m. on October 1, 2021.
