On March 5, the 16th Annual Women’s Leadership Breakfast welcomed 150 people to its new location at Hotel Retlaw in Fond du Lac. Attendees were treated to an insightful and interactive discussion about the characteristics of foundresses led by Katie Gordon, an organizer of the national Nuns and Nones movement. Ms. Gordon is currently in the middle of an oral history project that tells the stories of foundresses of women religious orders and brought their stories to the forefront as examples of long-term social justice activists. The assigned seating at the event ensured that all attendees had the opportunity to interact with at least one sister at their table.

Discussion questions included:

  • What image, or what words, come to mind when you think of foundresses?
  • Who are the foundresses that inspire you?
  • What foundresses are needed in our own times?

After Ms. Gordon’s remarks, Gina Possin took the microphone. A 2012 graduate of Marian University and the Working Families Grant Program, Ms. Possin discussed how the Program jumpstarted her path to becoming an Assistant Professor of Psychology and the Program Director of the new Industrial Organizational Psychology Master’s Program at Marian University.

Attendees came away from the event inspired by the zeal and compassion of founders like Mother Agnes.

Joanita and Nones

Following the breakfast, the new Fond du Lac Chapter of Nuns and Nones had its first meeting. Six Sisters of St. Agnes joined seven ‘nones’ to discuss how they imagine the group becoming. The group is expected to grow in size as other people showed interest prior to and after the breakfast.

The Women's Leadership Breakfast and Nuns and Nones gathering were also highlighted as part of Catholic Sisters Week in an article for Global Sisters Report.
