The mission of the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation ministry is to explore CSA's distinct contribution to the ongoing, nonviolent transformation of the world towards peace, justice and ecology. This work embraces the efforts of sisters, associates, co-workers and others who share the CSA vision. We live out the mission to bring about systemic change by using the lens of nonviolence to focus on the issues of women, children, health care, globalization (especially as it affects Latin America), seamless ethic of life.

Season of Creation: Sept 27

September 27, 2021
By Tracy Abler, Justice Coordinator

SEE

As they live out their commitment to care for creation, women's religious communities have become leaders in local land conservation. To mark this monthlong Season of Creation, EarthBeat and Global Sisters Report will host a virtual conversation with representatives of two communities that have made different decisions about how to preserve their land for future generations. The session will be moderated by Brian Roewe (EarthBeat) and Chris Herlinger (Global Sisters Report), and will accompany a series of articles about how religious communities are making land-use decisions, which will begin September 27 on EarthBeat.org and GlobalSistersReport.org,

Together with Global Sisters Report, EarthBeat is hosting a special environment-related Witness & Grace Conversation. All are welcome to join this virtual event:

Laudato Si Goals with Ecological Spirituality highlighted

REFLECT

“I would like to offer Christians a few suggestions for an ecological spirituality grounded in the convictions of our faith, since the teachings of the Gospel have direct consequences for our way of thinking, feeling and living. More than in ideas or concepts as such, I am interested in how such a spirituality can motivate us to a more passionate concern for the protection of our world.”
- Laudato Si' 102

ACT

Living sustainably is rooted in CSA’s history and mission. Father Caspar Rehrl, earliest founder of the Congregation, once said “Oh, how I wish that the Sisters of St. Agnes might someday live on this beautiful land watered by springs.”  That land eventually became CSA’s St. Joseph Springs Farm (pictured above) and is the current location of our Motherhouse.

For more than 160 years the Sisters tended this land by:

  • Caring for the soil through farming and gardening
  • Protecting the woodlands
  • Preserving the integrity of springs and streams
  • Maintaining open prairies to preserve native wildflowers, plants and grasses
  • Installing solar panels which generate clean energy

In addition, members have reduced, reused, and recycled in order to better steward the resources of Earth. Various spiritual, social, and educational expressions among the members reflect their love and care for Earth and for the most vulnerable.

INTERCESSION

That we may honor our interdependence with all God's creation and in a spirit of nonviolence, personally and communally renew and recommit to care for Earth, home of all living creatures, we pray.
