The mission of the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation ministry is to explore CSA's distinct contribution to the ongoing, nonviolent transformation of the world towards peace, justice and ecology. This work embraces the efforts of sisters, associates, co-workers and others who share the CSA vision. We live out the mission to bring about systemic change by using the lens of nonviolence to focus on the issues of women, children, health care, globalization (especially as it affects Latin America), seamless ethic of life.

Pope Francis is calling for an ecological conversion for all who live on this planet through his encyclical, Laudado Si’.  Hence, throughout the Season of Creation, we will be introducing the seven goals of the Laudato Si’ Action Platform into our daily reflections. This week we focus on:

GOAL#7:
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND PARTICIPATORY ACTION

Goal #7 encourages the development of cultures and policies that protect our common home and all who share it.

Each day provides you with an opportunity to See, Reflect, and Act.

To help you "See" the signs of our times,
we provide a relevant resource to read.

To supplement as you "Reflect" on the text,
we provide a relevant quotation from Laudato Si'.

To inspire you to "Act" in the world,
we share a relevant action that CSA has taken.

Finally, we will provide a daily Intercession to remind you that you are not doing this difficult work alone.

If you prefer to receive the details for the whole week in one email please send email to Tracy Abler at table@csasisters.org

GOAL#5:
ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION

GOAL#6:
ECOLOGICAL SPIRITUALITY

Goal #5 is about re-thinking and re-designing curricular and institutional reform in the spirit of integral ecology in order to foster ecological awareness and transformative action. .
Goal #6 recovers a religious vision of God's creation and encourages greater contact with the natural world in a spirit of wonder, praise, joy, and gratitude.

For Goodness Sake: Music for a Nonviolent Future

August 17, 2021
By Tracy Abler, Justice Coordinator

A quick reminder from Ann Scholz, SSND, PhD,  Associate Director for Social Mission for the Leadership Conference of Women Religious about an upcoming opportunity to support nonviolence.

From the struggle for racial justice to heal the planet, a global nonviolent shift is needed more than ever.

On Saturday, August 21 enjoy music from around the world to support the movement for a culture of active nonviolence free from racism, poverty, environmental destruction, and war. Pace e Bene is hosting “For Goodness Sake: Music for a Nonviolent Future” 2 pm EDT.  If you like, you can register here: https://goodness-sake.org/

There will be 40 musicians and 40 co-sponsors, including a number of Pax Christi groups in the US.

Finally, as part of For Goodness Sake, a live online nonviolence training and webinar exploring the power of music in nonviolent movements will be hosted by Pace e Bene on Friday, August 20. Click here for more information.

Blessings,

Ann

Image with text of prayerPeaceful God,

We come to you from the midst of a broken world where nations raise weapons against
nations and mothers and children are the innocent victims of violence.

We Cry Out for Peace!

Wise God,

Share your wisdom with the leaders of the world who continue to stockpile dangerous weapons, giving other countries the incentive to do the same, despite their commitment to the Nuclear-Non-Proliferation Treaty. We pray for the ability to overcome our brokenness, cooperating, instead of competing, across borders and boundaries.

We Cry Out for Peace!

God of Comfort,

It is hard to believe that our own country has refused to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, weakening its legitimacy and making our world less safe.

We Cry Out for Peace!

Tender God, Lover of Children,

It is incomprehensible to us that cluster munitions are acceptable for use in war, despite the terror they wreak upon unsuspecting children and other civilians during war and for many years afterwards.

We Cry Out for Peace!

Healing God,

So many communities have been left in ruins as a result of the destruction of war. We pray for the healing and rebuilding of communities torn apart by war and violence.

We Cry Out for Peace!

God, Father and Mother of this world, we pray that you would inspire us to create a peaceful world. Help us call our leaders to accountability and to remind them that more weapons and war do not bring peace. Make us peaceful people in a peaceful world. Amen.
