Taking a Faithful Stance for Equity

August 13, 2021
By Tracy Abler, Justice Coordinator

Dear Friends,

Below is information about an upcoming zoom meeting from Wisdom Wisconsin – “Taking a Faithful Stance for Equity.”  See below.  Please consider joining Monday night’s conversation, meet fellow advocates in your area, learn a little more from the experts in our midst, hear about each other’s good work and organize for action.

I also wanted to make sure you were aware of the bills some lawmakers across the country are introducing to ban schools from educating teachers, leadership, and our students about racism, sexism, or issues of social justice.  The charism of CSA is committed to transformation of the world through promoting systemic change for the quality of life.

CSA is a member of Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice (WNPJ).  I’ve found this to be a helpful resource and encourage those who live in Wisconsin, and looking to take action on issues dearest to you, to follow their Action Alerts as well.

It has been nearly a month since we had our first "Taking a Faithful Stance for Equity" convening via Zoom.  Since that time, a LOT has happened.  Many, many more bad things have been proposed in schools, in counties and in the state legislature.  But, we have also seen people of faith and good will who are not afraid to tell the truth turn out in significant numbers and with courage to stand up for equity.

Please join us for the next "Taking a Faithful Stance for Equity" Zoom Meeting.

Monday, August 16
6:30 PM
Via Zoom: You can register here: Faithful Stance for Equity

Since the last gathering, hundreds of people have stepped up and have taken action.  There have been public, well-publicized prayer vigils.  People have spoken up at school board meetings and county board meetings.  Many came to the Capitol from around the state to show their disapproval of a proposed law that would ban the teaching of any history that acknowledged systemic oppression of people of color or women in the past or present.

We have already had some success.  We have gotten noticed and have challenged the "anti-CRT" narrative.  In at least one school district, the Board has changed its mind after hearing from pro-equity constituents.

But, there is a LOT more to do.  Outrageous things are being said about "Critical Race Theory," and lots of things are being given that label.  Attempts are being made to censor libraries and even to control what teachers can learn in their professional development.

We CAN defeat the forces that would have us pretend we don't have a problem with racial inequities and that it needs to be addressed.  As Rev. Lanier reminded us in July, we just have to get organized!  We need to confront the anti-equity agenda wherever it pops up.

That's what Monday's Zoom meeting is all about - learning a little more, and getting ourselves organized to meet the challenge.

Please register and join us.
