The mission of the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation ministry is to explore CSA's distinct contribution to the ongoing, nonviolent transformation of the world towards peace, justice and ecology. This work embraces the efforts of sisters, associates, co-workers and others who share the CSA vision. We live out the mission to bring about systemic change by using the lens of nonviolence to focus on the issues of women, children, health care, globalization (especially as it affects Latin America), seamless ethic of life.

Help establish fair voting maps in Wisconsin

October 25, 2021
By Tracy Abler, Justice Coordinator

Under Wisconsin’s current redistricting system, whichever party controls the legislature also has the power to draw our state's voting maps. In 2011, this process resulted in “gerrymandered" congressional and state legislative districts that suppress competition in elections and deprive voters of the right to choose their representatives.

The good news is that we CAN establish an impartial process for drawing Wisconsin’s voting maps, but we need your help to increase support for this vital reform.

Faithful Democracy: A Moral Prelude to Marching

August 16, 2021
By Tracy Abler, Justice Coordinator

There are some great virtual options to join this year's March on Washington, Atlanta, Miami, Houston, and other states across America.

Dear Friends,

The right to vote is under attack across the country. People of faith have long been at the heart of the fight to expand and protect the right to vote, and we know that in order to tackle the issues our faiths call us to address – systemic racism, poverty, violence, and more – we need a functioning democracy.

On August 28, the 58th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic March on Washington, organizations across the country are coming together in-person and virtually to demand that elected officials denounce voter suppression and ensure fair, easy access to the vote for all.

The Faithful Democracy coalition will kick off this exciting week with a virtual, interfaith event, “Faithful Democracy: A Moral Prelude to Marching” on Sunday, August 22 at 3pm ET. Join LCWR and other cosponsor organizations to hear from inspiring faith leaders about why our voices are needed now more than ever. Register for the event today and learn more about the actions on August 28 here.

Blessings,

Ann

Also, consider viewing the virtual march followed by entering a prayer room. These are offered by the SSND Atlantic Midwest.

On August 28th, 2021, the 58th Anniversary of the March on Washington led by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., people from all over the United States will gather again to March On for Voting Rights.  As you know, many states have been enacting laws that will make voting difficult, if not impossible, for many of their constituents.  These laws must be challenged if the cornerstone of our democracy, the right to vote, is to be protected.

While we hope that some of you can consider attending the August 28th March On event, it will not be possible for most of us to attend.  Yet, there is a way we can all “be present” in solidarity with all those who will March-On in Washington D.C.

The JPIC Department, in collaboration with the Communications Department, has created a Virtual March Event. It is a way that each and every one of us can participate in this historic moment.  It is a way that each of us can join together to March On (virtually) for Voting Rights.

So…Let’s All March On By Taking These Steps…

Step 1:  Please enter the Virtual March here

Step 2: If you are able to make a simple sign, as the virtual march suggests, please send your picture with the sign to aflaherty@amssnd.org and/or ltriolo@amssnd.org by September 1st. This will also let us know that we have your permission to post your picture on our website and social media. Why?  It makes your solidarity with those who are marching to protect our democracy visible to our SSND network and wider public.

Step 3: At the end of the Virtual March Video, you will be invited to enter our SSND prayer room, which is here.

Step 4: Take the step to let your Senators know how important it is that they address The Voting Rights Act in the Fall session of the Senate here

In the midst of many transitions that are part of our lives at this time, let us take a moment to join this important movement, to protect the U.S. democracy, and uphold the values and vision upon which it has been built.  Let us bring the transformative grace of our SSND charism to this critical moment in history.

Arlene and Kathleen
