Words of advice for others working to advance the CSA Mission
I am deeply grateful for my 80 years as a Sister of St. Agnes. Day after day I trusted in God and was faithful to prayer and community life. If people needed me, they knew they could call upon me. I never said “no” to a request for help.
My advice to you who wish to live CSA’s mission today: You are all God’s people and God’s servants. Use your own common sense. Follow your heart and it will take you where you should be.”

A blessing she would like to share
What a blessing to celebrate this 70th jubilee! My life as a Sister of St. Agnes has been happy and filled with blessings. I enjoyed ministering in so many different places where I loved helping the children. My heart is filled with gratitude for all the joyful memories as well as the challenges. Both the joys and the challenges shaped my life and helped me grow in my commitment as a woman religious. God has blessed me and has been my strength through it all.

Reflections on my 70th Jubilee
As I celebrate my 70th Jubilee, I first want to thank my parents for supporting my desire to become a sister and allowing me to enter the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes. I have been blessed to serve in healthcare and pastoral ministry touching the lives of new- born infants and their mothers, accompanying expectant fathers through the birth of their child, journeying with youth, and being present to the elderly and homebound. I remember especially the sacredness of baptizing a new-born, at risk. infant in Colby, KS. I want to thank all who have shared these years with me. Thank you for the memories. My advice to those who now want to work to advance CSA’s mission: Get involved. Be hands on to find your place.

An experience that affirms her lifelong commitment as a vowed woman religious
A year or two after making my final vows in 1969, I was at the motherhouse for a meeting. Mid-afternoon I went to the dining room for a cup of coffee, Sr. John Baptist, then General Superior, was at a table with a few sisters. She called me over and asked me, “Do you know you are supposed to be dead?” “No” I answered “and I’m glad I didn’t know.” “Yes” she answered. “None of the doctors thought you would live to make your final vows.”
Advice for others working to advance CSA’s Mission
I treasure life in all its forms. As each day unfolds, I welcome the blessings no matter how small, that reveal themselves and I give thanks. Some days hold moments of darkness and I have learned that even those dark moments hold a blessing waiting to be revealed.
A blessing she would like to share
I have been blessed to have lived in nine different locations for ministry during these past 60 years. The sisters with whom I lived and ministered were and are very special gifts in my life. I learned so much from those to whom and with whom I worked, prayed with, and laughed and cried with. I am still learning from them.
How the CSA charism continues to inspire her
The CSA charism inspires me to continue embracing each day with a spirit of gratitude and joy for the blessings and challenges that will be revealed. Every morning I ask Jesus to show me how I can be his partner.

An experience that affirms her lifelong commitment as a vowed woman religious
When I assumed my responsibilities as pastoral assistant in Meridian, MS, I was known only to a few people. In November of the first year there, at the RCIA Rite of Welcome/Acceptance, I briefly explained before Mass the meaning of the Rite. During Mass, guided the RCIA individuals in responses and participation. After Mass, a parishioner with a visitor remarked that I must be a Sister. As I reflected on this comment, I felt affirmed in my ministry, along with my words and demeanor that I was recognized as a vowed woman religious. The keyboard/piano musician for the choir expressed it this way, “I always admired your acumen when it came to the finished product at St. Patrick’s.”

What drew her to enter into the CSA associate relationship
In 1964 I was accepted into Marian College. Little did I know it would change my life! I had Racine Dominicans in grade school and now I was getting to know the Sisters of St. Agnes.
I met Mary Mollison, aka, Molly and we became friends for life. We stayed at each other’s homes and just had fun. One day Molly came to my dorm room and put an envelope on my bed saying “just read it!” I could see the outline of a Sister in a habit and realized my dear friend was joining CSA. So Molly entered CSA and I married my soulmate. We even got permission to see Molly on our wedding day!
We continued our relationship and our children knew Molly as “Sister Molly.” We met often and shared our vowed lives that were similar and different. As I listened to Molly, I learned about CSA and their desire to live out God’s mission. I learned about a purely loving God who wants the best for each of us. This God was different from the one in the Baltimore Catechism. That God was a judging God who had consequences for a missed step in life.
Molly and the Sisters of St. Agnes were driven to change the world with love and caring for those who have been marginalized. After learning so much from Sister Molly, I decided I wanted to be an associate. When I told Molly she said “it’s about time!”
I am blessed and delighted to be apart of CSA where I continue to learn more, share more, and work for causes serving the unserved. Walking with others on this sacred journey!

An experience that affirms her commitment to the associate relationship
In 2013, Sister Judith asked if I’d help with a mutuality project, and thus we began, with another Sister and Associate, a program that met every third Thursday with sisters and associates that lasted until COVID. We had speakers and discussions on local and broader topics from poverty, homelessness, racism, migration and many more. It created action for some but education for all.
What drew her to enter into the CSA associate relationship
In 2007, Sister Deborah Walter asked in June; Sister Jean Steffes asked in July; Mary Jagdfeld asked in August. As usual I resisted (Sister Jean had asked before) but I said I’d meet with Ellen Swan and be open-minded. The rest is history. She appointed Mary as my mentor and we’ve had a beautiful friendship ever since.
A blessing she would like to share
A big blessing happened in November 2021 when Sister Joann Sambs called and asked if I could help at NCC reception desk for a few months. It lasted 8 ½ months and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had with the retired sisters.
What it means to be celebrating her jubilee as an associate of CSA
I don’t necessarily feel I need to celebrate Jubilee, but it’s appreciated. Just celebrating and praying with the sisters and associates is all that’s needed, whenever we do that it’s special.

Reflections
The Charism of CSA provides me with a spiritual template to understand, embrace, and hold Sacred Space for the spirit and soul work. I was introduced to CSA while earning my bachelor’s degree at Marian College. During that time, I came into daily relationship with the Sisters of St. Agnes who infused and wove the Charism of CSA into the education at Marian, the professors who guided my learning and challenged me, the people who were employed in all positions at the college, and the students whom I interacted with in classes and as a resident assistant. In graduating from Marian with an elementary education degree, my fellow graduates and I were invited to embody CSA values and share them with family, friends, colleagues in our profession, and those we met along our journey.
As I moved on from Marian, my various ministries have created a beautiful tapestry of color, texture, and design in my life. In the nine years after graduation, I taught middle school social studies and language arts, coached cross country, and purchased my own home. Upon meeting my husband, John, I moved into another chapter of life. This fall, we will celebrate 20 years of marriage with the blessings of our sons, Joseph and Luke.
Over the past twenty years, I have incorporated my educational background into substitute teaching at a handful of school districts. In addition, I’ve had the privilege to serve as the art and environment coordinator and book group facilitator at our church, parent teacher association president and Lego League coach in our sons’ school, and coordinate community events and grief support in our rural area. I have certifications in Servant Leadership and the Art of Spiritual Companioning. As an apprentice of lifelong learning, I am passionate about understanding myself, in order to offer empathy, grace-filled inquiry, compassionate companioning, and wisdom to those who are seeking and searching during the ups and downs in life.
I am… grateful and blessed by the mutuality of the CSA Sisters and Associates who model a welcoming, warm, and real presence of our Creator.
I am… grateful and blessed by my family, friends, and companions on the journey who mirror discernment and the wholeness of God.
I am… grateful and blessed to engage with and live the Charism of CSA with creativity, color, and calling forth the Divine in ALL.
I am curious… What is the Charism of CSA inviting each of us to contemplate and live in our present reality?

An experience that affirms her commitment to the associate relationship
I appreciate the sharing of common values, the meaningful conversations, the company of others committed to deepening their spirituality, the humor, affection and caring I see among the sisters and associates and the quiet moments of grace and reflection found in this community.
What drew her to enter into the CSA associate relationship
I was attending a spiritual book group where two members were associates. I also had a good friend who was an associate for several years. I was open to embracing action with spiritual meaning. During my discernment with Sister Caryl Hartjes, she simplified and clarified this calling by leading me to the words found on the wall of the entrance at the motherhouse, essentially saying to me that we are all broken and we all have talents to share. That, and Sister Rhea Emmer saying that I can take the whole CSA community with me as I began working in a position that challenged my values, are two reflections I have carried in my heart.
A blessing she would like to share
May the gifts and spirit of this congregation continue to find their way into the hearts and minds of those in need.
What it means to be celebrating her jubilee as an associate of CSA
I am surprised and grateful that I have been led to be in the company of the amazing women in this congregation for 15 years. I am grateful for my relationships with the women and men of the associate community that have deepened over time.

One of the great blessings of being an associate is the opportunity to get to know sisters and associates and to learn about their true goodness in action. The charism of this community is tremendously inspiring and gives me hope for our church and our future.
