Sister Joleen Retzer is a teacher/librarian at the Window Rock Public School in Fort Defiance, Arizona.

Sister Joleen Retzer is a teacher/librarian at the Window Rock Public School in Fort Defiance, Arizona.

"I have built a deep relationship with the students, I have never felt so appreciative, I am completely happy in this setting," said Sister Joleen Retzer.

"There are 250 children in our school. I have been here for 16 years and the children and parents have shared their culture with me. The children are eager to learn, have beautiful smiles, love to pray and sing and participate in very lively liturgy," shared Sister Barbra De Boo.

The grandparents' names are Harriet and Jerry Yazzie, who babysit their grandhild everyday.

"I have worked with members of the Navajos for the past 17 years, they are prayerful people. They have a prayer for everything, it is just a part of their lives," says Sister Josephine Goebel.

Sister René Backe, Superintendent of Schools, Academic Director of Deacon and Lay Ministry Formation, Gallup Diocese, New Mexico.

Sister René Backe has lived in New Mexico for the twenty one years. "This land called me, it is called the land of enchantment and I came in 1987and found myself enchanted," shared Sister René. "To learn the culture, history and values of the Native American and Hispanic people has enriched my life, these are people of strong faith."
