Stories of Service
Stories of Service is the title of CSA Sponsorship's book of 36 inspirational accounts written by the women and men of the sponsored ministries.  It was published to support the ministries' efforts to communicate their many extraordinary stories of service that occur every day.  The book was also prepared to inspire every reader to greater service and to recognize that each ministry's story is one among many - the story of CSA sponsored ministries.

There are many other Stories of Service that did not get published in the book.  CSA Sponsorship would like to share some of them with you.  We hope you enjoy them!

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The women and men who work behind the scenes in CSA sponsored ministries continue the sacred service that is a hallmark of Catholic health care and higher education.

It's rare to find an employee in CSA’s sponsored ministries whose job doesn’t require the use of a computer at least once during the workday.  Computers are the modus operandi by which medical records are filed, student registrations are tabulated, newsletters are written, physician notes are entered, and an ever-expanding spectrum of procedures and tasks are performed.  When computers go on the glitch, everyone knows whom to call.  No, it's not Ghostbusters:  it is the IT folks!  Frankly put, the women and men who work in the IT departments of Marian College, Monroe Clinic, and Agnesian HealthCare make healing and teaching happen!  IT staffs provide help with PCs and printers; keep computers free of viruses; enable students to view grades, schedules, and transcripts; coordinate administrative software; create and update the ministry website; enable physicians, faculty, and staff to access patient or student records online; and a myriad of other tasks.

Since 2000, Lynda Schultz has been the reason many people who work at Marian College have become more knowledgeable and confident with their computer skills and less intimidated by information technology.  As both trainer and educator, Lynda teaches workshops on various office applications and does so by tailoring the lesson to the daily tasks of individual learners.  “For example, I teach Excel to faculty members by helping them use it to manage grades.  Learning is more effective when it can immediately be put into action.”  She has also developed online workshops for faculty and staff unable to leave their office, as well as tutorials for students in need of basic computer skills. Lynda loves sharing the frequent "aha" moments of those who discover a new "can do" attitude with technology.

Lynda, together with the other six members of the IT Department, is dedicated to Marian’s core values.  Their commitment to Community is evidenced in the many ways they participate in campus activities, including volunteering as student mentors.  Marian’s IT Department functions as an integral part of the college community.

The commitment to Justice is reflected in the numbers of computers IT staff helped recycle to schools and communities in poor regions of Mississippi.  The commitment to Learning is at very the heart of IT, and the value of Spiritual Traditions is reverenced at weekly department meetings that always begin with a reflection.
